2021-22 Ottawa Senators Season Grades with Kevin Lee
Thursday May 05, 2022
Thursday May 05, 2022
After a long break, Alex is finally back! The season has finally come to an end, and although the Ottawa Senators season didn't go quite as some hoped or expected, it still left lots to talk about. Today, Alex is joined once again by Kevin Lee! The two will give their Ottawa Senator season grades. Going through each player, and describing their season vs expectations and how they did.
Much like last season, Kevin based his grades on what the players did vs his own expectations heading into the season. Alex tries to balance that and the actual output of the player. For example, they discuss if and how Colin White should be affected by his contract. As well, does someone like Matt Murray who now has a history of injuries, get docked for not staying healthy? Finally, the two also take a look at coaching and management and discuss why it's not a good thing the narrative is almost the exact same as the last offseason.

Ottawa Senators Trade Deadline Review with Brandon Piller
Thursday Mar 24, 2022
Thursday Mar 24, 2022
Alex is back after a busy weekend with the NHL Trade Deadline. Last week, he previewed the Ottawa Senators Trade Deadline. Looking at what to expect and what moves they might make. Including a big move from another Canadian team. However, they didn't get the correct defenceman. This week, Brandon Piller makes his return to the podcast! The two look at each trade that the Senators made this deadline.
This includes Travis Hamonic and trading away fan favourite Nick Paul. As well as discussing what the return for each trade brings to the team. After that, they discuss what they want to see this season as the last 20 games are once again relatively meaningless. Finally, they have a discussion about the future of the Ottawa Senators goaltending and what they thought of the Anton Forsberg contract. Is it good? Too much? Alex thinks it might be shades of past contracts the team has signed that have not worked out very well. Tune in for all of that and more!

Saturday Mar 19, 2022
Saturday Mar 19, 2022
Alex is back after his solo stint last week! This time, he has Matt Bosty making his return to the podcast! Matt is making his fourth appearance and as always, the mood becomes a lot lighter when he joins. The two preview the Ottawa Senators Trade Deadline together. Examining who may be moved, who they would move, and what fans should expect leading up to Monday afternoon.
They also discuss some trade proposals which include Matt proposing a very interesting trade idea between Ottawa and another Canadian team. Other than just trade deadline talk, the guys also discuss the frustration of the fanbase after a very long season that was supposed to be better. Another topic of interest becomes what do you do with goaltending going forward? Anton Forsberg seems to be here for the year, but can you even trust Matt Murray going forward?

Going Solo: Embarrassing Road Trip and Roster Future
Wednesday Mar 09, 2022
Wednesday Mar 09, 2022
Alex is back to recap a busy week of Ottawa Senators hockey. Today, he is trying something new. For the first time ever he is doing the episode without a guest. Alex goes solo and gives his opinions on the Ottawa Senators record and their recent play. Highlighting why he believes the team still has quite a ways to go if they truly want to be contenders. Since the last recording, Ottawa lost five in a row, including losing to two of the worst teams in the league. However, they finished a miserable road trip with a convincing win.
From there, Alex looks at the return of Colin White and how he has had a great start to his season. As well as the need to remove Nikita Zaitsev from the lineup. Overall, Alex looks forward to the deadline and what he wants the Sens to do. A guest will return for the next episode, but for now, enjoy the rants!

Goaltending, Roster Moves, and Expectations with Graeme Nichols
Sunday Feb 27, 2022
Sunday Feb 27, 2022
Welcome back to the Last Word on Sens podcast. This week, Alex has Graeme Nichols making his return to the podcast! Today, the two discuss the last two weeks of games from the Senators and ask the question can you be taking moral victories at this point in the rebuild? From there, they discuss what this Ottawa Senators roster may look like with everyone healthy again and what summer additions could be made to really improve the team.
They also speak on Matt Murray and his recent play plus the fact that he can't stay healthy. This leads to a discussion of what to do with Anton Forsberg because Filip Gustavsson needs to start too. All of that heads towards a larger deadline discussion on who might get sold and the fact that this should be the last season as deadline sellers. Alex and Graeme debate between Erik Brannstrom and his future with the Ottawa Senators as well.

Moving on From Zaitsev, Injuries, and Season Expectations with Jack Richardson
Wednesday Feb 09, 2022
Wednesday Feb 09, 2022
Alex is back after the All-Star break and with two weeks in the books, there is lots to talk about. To break everything down, Jack Richardson of the Future Sickos Podcast joins him. The two begin with highlighting some key injuries since the last recording which includes Drake Batherson and Joshua Norris. Going over the losses, they look at how it impacts the team's depth but also how the Senators have actually fought through it nicely.
Alex and Jack also discuss how the Ottawa Senators season is a weird one because it feels like a "lost" season, but there is still obvious improvement made. This is unlike past seasons where a top draft pick is what is needed. Instead, you want to see actual growth from the team that gives confidence going forward. Finally, they have a long discussion on the Senators' defensive pairs, a very common topic lately. Is there a way to move on from Nikita Zaitsev this year and what would it cost to do so?

Defence, Depth, and Decisions with Owen Welch
Wednesday Jan 26, 2022
Wednesday Jan 26, 2022
Alex is back with games to talk about as the Senators are finally playing again! With six games played since he last recorded, there is lots to take a look at as 2022 is now well underway. To do this, Owen Welch of Silver Seven Sens joins him! Together, the guys take a look at the Ottawa Senators Defence, depth, and decisions to make going forward.
Starting with the defence, Alex can't get over just how good Erik Brannstrom looks. Unfortunately, he is on COVID protocol now but they discuss what his absence means and if he has a spot when he is back. From there, they also discuss the depth of the Sens and if they should add a Tyler Toffoli type player this season. Does it make sense to spend assets now or should they wait and target a list of players Owen has circled the free agency? One thing they agree on, is that depth is something that will need to be changed going forward.

Senators Roster Issues, COVID, Rookies, and More with Steve on Sens
Wednesday Nov 17, 2021
Wednesday Nov 17, 2021
Alex is back after a two-week break. Since the last episode, there is plenty to talk about. Including the Ottawa Senators being shut down for a full week thanks to a COVID outbreak. To help him break all the news down is Steve on Sens. Together, the two start by looking at what this break means and should it have happened sooner? Then, they switch to the Ottawa Senators roster as a whole and how this season has already become a bit of a throwaway season. Diving into what they want to see going forward and why this year needs to be a learning year for management.
The guys also take a look at the last eight Sens games in which they went 1-6-1, an absolutely terrible stretch of hockey. It wasn't just COVID that impacted things, it's the team as a whole. Regardless, they also discuss what they liked out of certain rookie players and has someone like Lassi Thomson done enough to stay full time?
